Capitólio
Designed by architect Luís Cristino da Silva, the Capitólio, inaugurated in 1931, played an important role in the city’s cultural activity until the 1980s, with its stage hosting revues, comedy, jazz, fado, operetta and film performances by renowned artists. After a long period closed to the public, the space underwent major renovation work, designed by Alberto de Souza Oliveira. Reopened in October 2016, it was awarded the Valmor Prize. It is part of Parque Mayer, one of the main venues for the city’s bohemian life between the 1920s and 1970s.
The Performance Hall
The Capitólio is a space that hosts multidisciplinary artistic projects of interest to the city and to all audiences, establishing itself as a venue open to cultural promoters from the city and the country. An emblematic venue for the performing and entertainment arts.
